SSL POP3 and SMTP with MS Outlook Express

To configure Outlook Express for Neomailbox, follow these steps:

Add a Mail Account

Select 'Tools' from the menubar and click on 'Accounts'.

On the "Internet Accounts" dialog, click "Add" and then "Mail".

The Internet Connection Wizard will ask you for your full name. Fill in the full name you would like to use in the "From" address of your outgoing mail, and click "Next".

The next screen will prompt you for your email address. Type in the neomailbox address you'd like to use in the "From" address of your outgoing mail.

The next screen prompts for incoming and outgoing mail servers. Type "neomailbox.com" for both. Make sure the incoming mail server type at the top is set to "POP3".

The next screen will ask for your mail server username and password. Enter your neomailbox username, and the password you selected for SPOP in the neomailbox account setup or web control panel, and click "Next". Do NOT enable "SPA".

That completes the new account addition and you should see the following screen. Click "Finish".

SSL Configuration

Now you need to configure Outlook Express to secure your connection to the mail servers. On the "Internet Accounts" dialog, select the "Mail" tab.

You should see your newly set up neomailbox account listed. Select this account on the list and click "Properties". The "neomailbox.com Properties" dialog box will appear.

On the "neomailbox.com Properties" dialog, turn on the checkbox for "My server requires authentication", and click the "Settings" button. The "Outgoing Mail Server" dialog will appear:

If you set your SSMTP password to the same as your SPOP password in the neomailbox account setup or web control panel, you can click "Use same settings as my incoming mail server".

Otherwise, type in the username and password you selected for SSMTP in the neomailbox account setup or web control panel, and click "OK".

Do NOT enable "Log on using Secure Password Authentication".

Back on the "neomailbox.com Properties" dialog, select the "Advanced" tab.

Turn on the checkboxes for "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" under both "Outgoing mail (SMTP)" and "Incoming mail (POP3)". Then click "OK".

(Note: some ISPs block outgoing connections on port 25 which is the standard SMTP mail port. If you have trouble sending mail using your neomailbox account, change the number for "Outgoing Mail (SMTP)" in the "Server Port Numbers" section on this screen from 25 to 465 and it should work).

Click "Close" on the "Internet Accounts" dialog.

That's it. You should be able to send and receive mail now.
